Oakley unveils Airwave ski goggles equipped with Recon's MOD Live heads-up display, iOS app

Oakley's Airwave ski goggles riders with Recon's MOD Live HUD

Remember late last year when Recon Instruments introduced its MOD Live Android-enabled heads-up display for the likes of ski goggles?Joining the ranks of other optics makers, Oakley's partnered with the company to seamlessly integrate the unit into its own goggles, dubbed Airwave. It's not just another shell for the system, either, as Oakley will be providing a companion app that'll work with iOS -- which seems to be first official instance as such since Recon itself said it would be coming earlier this year. The MOD Live itself is otherwise the same right-eye positioned system (providing a perceived 14-inch display at five feet away) we've seen for almost a year now, so don't expect to get the clearest picture if you're left eye dominant or use contact lenses for distance. Furthermore, there's still GPS for tracking friends / navigation, and Bluetooth to work with a water-resistant wrist remote that allows you to control your smartphone and the display itself. Of course, this also means Recon's Android SDK will also be workable, as will your Contour camera.

If you're interested in Oakley's spin on the MOD Live, the Airwave will hit Apple stores on October 31st for $600 in your choice of black with a black Iridium lens, or a white with black graphics and a "fire" colored variant of the lens -- yes, they're interchangeable just like most of Oakley's other specs. If you're curious for further details in the meantime, check out the simulation video and press release after the break. Now, how about those full-on smart glasses to take on Google Glass as the company's CEO mentioned in April?

Re: FTM 2012 finds places on map but still unresolved - Family Tree ...

Sure. If you right click on any place in Places, or click on the Unresolved icon in any place input box in the Person tab, you are given the "Resolve Place Name" screen.

The top 2 paragraphs describe their new approach to "bifurcated" place names. Free form text in the top box (an address, church name, cemetery name, historical name, whatever - represented by text to the left of the left-most comma - which can be repeated) is moved to the top box and "sandwiched" to the bottom resolved part and forms a partially resolved name.

These partially resolved place names are shown in the places Workspace with the Place icon without a checkmark or a question mark. This partially resolved name therefore resolves the place that a cemetery, for example, is in; and also places it in the heirarchical view. It does not review, or check, or "resolve" the free form text that the user moves to the top box.

This is an improvement over cemetery names in the place field because previously we had to mark ignore, or or just leave cemetery names unresolved. However, the main issue is that there are still many places that a person will want to leave unresolved - Oklahoma Territory or Viriginia for West Virginia etc - and they should be included in the new heirarchical view. I therefore suggest the heirarchical view would make more sense to simply include all places - resolved, full or partial, or not resolved.

Omidyar Network, Founded By eBay Billionaire, Creates ...

On the day Pierre Omidyar became a billionaire, he knew he wanted to put his money to good use.

In September 1998, the eBay founder watched his stake in the company rise to over $1 billion on the first day of public trading. Having written the original software for the site only three years prior, Omidyar didn't feel an overwhelming sense of entitlement to the wealth and made it his mission to make sure the money was employed effectively, he wrote in the Harvard Business Review. To do so, he created the Omidyar Network (ON), an organization that invests in promising social enterprises, some of which serve the world's poorest populations.

After initially starting a nonprofit family foundation, Omidyar decided to create a new organization that would use the power of business to address global poverty, he wrote. Omidyar had watched eBay became a powerful influence in online commerce -- empowering many people to become entrepreneurs -- and wanted to help other underserved populations in a similar way.

"The vast majority of entrepreneurs who set up shop [because of eBay] were people who might not have been entrepreneurs in other capacities," said Paula Goldman, Omidyar Network director. "There were a large number of single moms who couldn't afford to work out of the house, people with developmental disabilities, and a large number of disabled military veterans who were able to set up shop working from home."

The site's effect on underserved populations inspired the creation of the Omidyar Network, which uses impact investments to facilitate efforts around the globe to assist those at the base of the economic pyramid. A report by JP Morgan, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Global Impact Investing Network describes impact investments as "investments intended to create positive impact alongside financial return." According to the report, the impact investing market offers the potential for invested capital of between $400 billion and $1 trillion over the next 10 years.

To date, the Omidyar Network has made over $550 million in impact investments. Roughly half of those investments were grants, while the other half consisted of for-profit tools like loans or equity, according to Goldman. All of the money went to early-stage entrepreneurs who were perceived as too risky by commercial investors or because "investors might not be willing to come in until the concept is more proven," Goldman said.

As a hybrid for-profit/nonprofit organization, the Omidyar Network effectively "operates with two checkbooks," Goldman said. The blend of nonprofit and for-profit enables the company to invest in social entrepreneurs in whichever way will be most effective.

One of the companies that has received funding from the Omidyar Network is d.light. As a for-profit social enterprise that produces affordable solar lanterns, d.light aims to bring light to 100 million people by 2020 who currently do not have access to reliable electricity.

Omidyar Network also works with companies that seek to create greater governmental transparency. Janaagraha, a nonprofit based in India, created the website IPaidABribe.com to bring attention to widespread corruption. Because of the site, the local government in Bangalore stepped in and cleaned up two departments, Goldman said. The service has already expanded to Kenya, Greece, Zimbabwe and Pakistan and has been requested in many more nations, she added.

Goldman said the example set by Pierre Omidyar and the Omidyar Network can help move the impact investing industry forward. Investors need to keep two main things in mind when considering potential investments, she said. "Investors need to make a commitment to provide early-stage risk capital to kick-start new sectors," she said. "And they need to truly commit to knowing the local markets so they can pick out the next d.light or Janaagraha."

Ghoulish Idea: Dress Up Your Chairs For Halloween

Entry #1756, October 26, 201

Halloween chair decorations should be on the top of your list if you?re planning to host a Halloween dinner or party. This is one of the easiest ways to welcome the holiday into your home and enjoy it with family and friends gathered around the table. After you choose the Halloween centerpiece, tablecloth and table decorations, turn your attention to the seats around the table.

Halloween chair covers ? mini or maxi?

Don?t overdecorate or you will end up with a crowded room where no decorations will pop out? ? just one or two chairs out of a 6 or 8 suite is enough to spark up the atmosphere. Take as example the photo below, seen on HammersAndHighHeels. This is a DiY project perfect for the days remaining until our favorite holiday, just follow the instructions and you will display a sophisticated chair cover with a customized stenciled gravestone ? maybe even personalize it to display the name of the person sitting in that place, creating a different kind of place cards.

Halloween chair covers can embrace the backrest or they can cover the whole chair. A skeleton chair cover that completely hides the chair behind the material can be an ingenious way of decorating for Halloween and completely changing the look of a room.

Halloween chair painting projects

If you have painting skills, a Halloween painting project can be just the thing to unleash your creativity. Paint ghouly scenes, cats or brooms, use skull representation or any Halloween motif you might be attracted to. These two painted chairs below acts as inspiration for a Halloween-inspired painting project, but if you can?t paint that well, a few bat or dark houses silhouettes can do wonders on an old chair.

Sewing/gluing cute Halloween backrest decorations

If you?re into a cute Halloween style and your children love Do-it-yourself projects, an easy Halloween sewing/gluing? project will not only create a buzz, but help your kids learn how to create their own decorations. Using felt and glue is the easiest way to go, with spectacular result, while sewing takes a little more practice and supervision.

Finding Halloween-inspired designer chairs

Maybe you can include buying a skull chair in your Halloween budget ? this would be an impressive acquisition that you can use for each year?s party. This fiberglass skull chair from the Nouvelle Vague collection by the French company Pool is just one of the creative skull chair design out there. Named?Souviens Toi Que Tu Vas Mourir (meaning Remember That You Will Die in French), the creepy modern chair ?shows the emblematic monobloc chair reinterpreted as an expression of vanity?, constructing the idea of transience so well seen in this special holiday.

Ghostly white, eerie orange and deep black are the perfect colors to choose for a traditional Halloween. A black chair wrap with spider web motif can add elegance to your Halloween decor, while a carefully crafted electric chair would keep you busy for a few hours.? A simple cheesecloth thrown over your favorite armchair is enough to get your heart rate up ? add a pumpkin or a representative Halloween pillow and you have a creepy but comfortable reading corner to enjoy this autumn?s upcoming Halloween!

All day, all night: Obama's long search for votes

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) ? Deep in the longest day of his campaign, President Barack Obama was in a Las Vegas casino, gambling that his re-election bid needed one more stop. It was 1:40 a.m. on his clock, and he was pleading with the hotel cooks and waiters for their votes.

"I need you so that I can keep on working for you," he told workers at the Bellagio. His voice was going. And soon, he was going again, too.

Obama's 40-hour blitz across America on Wednesday and Thursday was a sign of how the final campaign of his life will look and feel through Nov. 6. His presidency in doubt, Obama is not just chasing votes. He is chasing time.

The soaring importance of the early voting ? happening now in key states such as Ohio, Nevada, Colorado, Iowa and Florida ? means the president is into the last-minute sprint, with 12 days to go.

"The old model is gone," said adviser David Plouffe, standing in the early darkness in Tampa, Fla., after Air Force One's red-eye flight from Vegas. "Every day is Election Day now."

Even by campaign standards, where the travel days at this stage are supposed to be full of energy and urgency, Obama's trip covered remarkable ground. More than 7,600 miles of it.

And often it has come with Obama boasts about his pace.

"Our 48-hour, marathon-extravaganza fly-around. We are pulling an all-nighter," he said from Denver. "No sleep. Quite a bit of coffee."

Actually, Obama doesn't drink coffee. And he ends up sleeping a little in his bed on the plane. But the all-nighter part sure felt right, the way Obama and his entourage blurred through five time zones to maximize campaign time.

Obama ricocheted from the heartland to Hollywood, from the mountains to the desert, from ocean to ocean. He ate pizza in Iowa, laughed with Jay Leno in California and mocked Mitt Romney into the wee hours of the Nevada night.

"Vote! Vote! Vote!" the president shouted by then, his message shrunk to its essentials.

Along the way, a helicopter for the press broke down. A van carrying his staff wouldn't start. Air Force One hit monster turbulence. But that was just a memory by the time Obama had a spectacular sunset helicopter ride over Los Angeles, or when he saw 15,000 people waiting for him in the Virginia sun.

The itinerary centered on six toss-up states: Iowa, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Virginia, and Ohio. He included California to appear on "The Tonight Show," and Illinois so that he could make a splash of voting early as president.

Obama's campaign day lasted more than 18 hours on Wednesday, technically ending at about 2:30 a.m. EDT. His friends and advisers competed for floor space on the plane to sleep. That didn't last long. Obama was in Florida and campaigning anew by 7 a.m. EDT.

That's when signs of punchiness started to show. Some of Obama's aides broke into dance when a familiar Stevie Wonder song played at the end of his Tampa event. The president sounded hoarse.

"I'm just going to keep on keeping on," he said.

Soily Rivera, a 28-year-old homemaker from Tampa, brought her 6-month-old son Jose Santa Maria to hear Obama. When asked if Obama's marathon trip to the battleground states could show desperation, she shook her head in disagreement.

"No, determination," she said. "Determination. Big time."

That is what Obama's campaign wants voters to see ? a president full of drive and vigor. Yet Obama also has to campaign this hard because he is fighting for survival. Polls show a remarkably close race in all the key states.

He used spare time for political advantage. In separate conference calls aboard Air Force One, Obama spoke to 17,000 campaign volunteers, 9,000 undecided voters and 50 disc jockeys from swing states.

On the ground, Obama kissed babies, took photos with his motorcade drivers and bought doughnuts for firefighters. He joked with one young boy in Aurora, Colo., that he had the same big ears as the president.

"He enjoys days like this," campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said during one of Thursday's flights, somewhere over the hills on the way to Virginia. "They're busy. They're hectic. We'll sleep on Nov. 7th."

If Obama accomplished any single goal, it was to educate people that many of them can vote right now, so they don't have to get entangled with work or child-care problems on Election Day.

Back in Denver, Sarah Romero, 51, has gotten off her day job at 2 p.m. for the past two months and headed over to her local Obama campaign office to volunteer for the president through the evening.

She was happy Obama was swinging by Denver. But not blown away by his pace. That's his job.

Said Romero: "They get naps on the plane."

Al-Qaeda in Yemen regrouping in 'sleeper cells,' analysts say

ADEN (Reuters) - A U.S.-backed military onslaught may have driven Islamist militants from towns in Yemen they seized last year, but many have regrouped into "sleeper cells" threatening anew the areas they vacated, security officials and analysts say.

The resilience of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), despite increased U.S. drone strikes to eliminate militants, is worrying for top oil exporter Saudi Arabia next door and the security of major shipping lanes in the seas off Yemen.

When a nationwide uprising against autocratic rule erupted last year, tying up security forces and causing a power vacuum, militants charged into the major south Yemen towns of Zinjibar, Jaar and Shuqra and set up Islamic "emirates".

To broad their appeal, the militants renamed themselves Ansar al-Sharia (Partisans of Islamic Law), appointed spokesmen to deal with the media and put up signposts and flags. Poverty, unemployment and alienation from a central government seen as aloof and corrupt spurred some young men to join the cause.

Residents said the militants included Saudis, Pakistanis, Egyptians, Chechens and Somalis, hinting at the international scope of the jihadi threat to Saudi and Western interests.

After President Ali Abdullah Saleh finally bowed to popular revolt and stepped down in February, the U.S.-backed Yemeni military swept in and wrested back southern towns from the militants, sometimes after heavy fighting.

But the south, where resentment of tribal domination from the north has long run high and a separatist movement revived in 2007, has since become a more dangerous place, residents say.

STEALTHY SHIFT IN TACTICS

"After their sudden withdrawal from Abyan, it ended with no one victorious or defeated," said Aden-based commentator Madyan al-Maqbas. "They had suddenly come, they took over, then they fled to the hills, and they left behind sleeper cells."

A rash of deadly violence in the major southern province of Abyan ensued, indicating that Ansar militants were still lurking in the vicinity of the towns they had once controlled.

Nine jihadis including the head of the Jaar "emirate" Nader al-Shaddadi were killed by a U.S. drone missile fired into a farmhouse where they were hiding just outside town on October 19.

Five of the militants were teenagers from Jaar itself who had quietly moved into the farmhouse as a typical sleeper cell, a Yemeni security source told Reuters.

The next day, militants ambushed an army base in Shuqra, killing 16 soldiers, after apparently slipping out of lairs in the barren rugged mountains rearing up above the town.

"Most people are concerned about sleeper cells. We're aware of it and people have started to be more careful," said Hasan Ali Hasan, 35, from the Mansoura district of Aden where security forces raided some suspected "safe houses" this month.

In June, the commander of the army's southern division, a southerner who replaced a Saleh ally from north Yemen in March, was killed by a car bomb in a suburb of Aden, the sprawling main city and port in the south. Security forces subsequently uncovered numerous caches of suicide belts in the area.

There have been dozens of other attacks and kidnappings by undercover militants targeting security and military officials.

Yemeni security sources said the two leading figures in Ansar al-Sharia, Nader al-Shaddadi and Galal Bil-Eidy, are believed to be sheltering in mountains around Shuqra where they form the link between urban cells in Aden and AQAP commanders like Nasser al-Wuhayshi tucked away in mountains to the north.

They said such regional militant chieftains had activated sleeper cells to carry out assassinations of security officials in Aden and attacks like the one in Shuqra.

AL QAEDA IN THE ARABIAN PENINSULA

Formed in 2009, AQAP has carved out a reputation as al Qaeda's most formidable regional wing with suicide attacks on tourists, diplomats and operations against neighboring Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil exporter, and U.S. targets abroad.

The sudden spread of al Qaeda in south Yemen was seen by many Yemenis as a ruse by Saleh, a northerner, to warn Western and regional backers of what would happen if their trusted strongman was no longer around to keep militancy in check.

Interim President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has begun replacing military and security chiefs in the south with southerners less connected to Saleh. The new command has been welcomed in Aden as more serious about challenging AQAP.

But the new commanders must still rely on tribal militias called "popular committees" inside southern towns and surrounding districts to stop militants returning in force.

Residents fear some militants could have infiltrated the committees, noting that the Ansar al-Sharia "emirate" in Jaar managed to negotiate a deal with the military that allowed many gunmen to leave unscathed.

Mohammed Sukain al-Jaadani, former head of a popular committee in Shuqra that helped organize tribes against the militants last year, is now trying to dissuade the region's youth from being tempted by jihadist ideology.

"After Jaar and Zinjibar, al Qaeda turned into sleeper cells. It's a danger for society, they are in many places. They threaten tribes and citizens," said Jaadani.

He has set up a Tribal Social Alliance in his home region in Hadramaut province bordering Saudi Arabia.

"We did good work with tribes, and we are still doing work to save our regions from al Qaeda and unknown people to reject destructive, terrorist ideas. They created a culture of violence and extremism. We're trying to help the authorities come back."

Jaadani recalled suspicious behavior by Saleh's forces last year, including three incidents when fighter jets targeted his tribal force rather than militant positions. He said 30 were killed in that one attack, which the army said was a mistake.

"Al Qaeda was in all areas of Shuqra. But we cleaned them out and had a plan to bring a complete end to 'Ansar al-Sharia' here," Jaadani said. "But some officials in the state cut off supplies to us and we withdrew because of that.

"The former regime neglected its duty. When Saleh was still there, they didn't want tribes to succeed ... When we withdrew (last year), al Qaeda came back and took over Al-Kod and Shuqra, as if it was prearranged by the authorities."

MOUNTAIN REDOUBTS

Nasser al-Noba, a former army officer who helped relaunch the southern separatist movement, says militants have hunkered down in the Mahfad, Marakisha and Hatat mountains, inland from the flat coastal areas of Jaar, Zinjibar and Shuqra.

But they face an increasing risk of death from drones if they emerge, he said.

"They sometimes appear in the streets, they suddenly appear and disappear as if by remote control. They go around in landcruisers, with the stickers of al Qaeda on the doors. But since Saleh's fall, the drones have started to have an effect."

Drones have featured prominently in the Sanaa government's security strategy since Hadi took charge. Residents of towns once held by al Qaeda say many buildings were targeting during the campaign this year to evict the Islamists.

Some southern tribal figures have adopted the jihadi banner. One of them was U.S.-born Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed along with his son by a U.S. drone in 2011, and Tarek al-Fadli, who was raised in Saudi Arabia and fought in Afghanistan.

Whatever the causes of al Qaeda's spread, and the brief public life of Ansar al-Sharia, analysts say the phenomenon of militancy would recede with a stronger, more efficient state presence and economic development creating jobs.

Despite AQAP's resourcefulness in south Yemen, Mohammed Qahtan of the Islamist Islah party in Sanaa is confident that al Qaeda, which killed 100 soldiers in a suicide attack on a Sanaa military parade in May, was now feeling more heat.

"Al Qaeda has been weakened since Hadi took over. The presence of the state in politics, development and security - filling the gaps the state had created - will tip the scales and change people's attitude towards al Qaeda."

Whitney Houston's family uses show to cope

Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon attend "The Houstons: On Our Own" series premiere party at Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York on Tuesday.

By Jill Serjeant, Reuters

Making a TV reality show may not be the most obvious way to cope with the sudden death of a loved one, but most families don't count an icon like Whitney Houston among their relatives.

Less than a year after the "I Will Always Love You" singer drowned accidentally in a hotel bath tub after taking cocaine, Houston's teen daughter, her mother, brother and sister-in-law share with the world their struggle to cope in "The Houstons: On Our Own".?

Difficult as that is, the Houstons say that making the 14-episode show for cable channel Lifetime has helped rather than hindered the process.

"The show has kept the family close together, (instead of) isolated from one another. We talk about things, we are very open, and we pay attention to the ones who need consoling the most. Doing the show certainly has helped in a huge way," Pat Houston, Whitney's manager and sister-in-law, told Reuters.

"There are preconceptions about the family that just aren't true. We are a strong family, a working family, and a typical family. Our family member just happens to be an icon," she added. "You will see a family that is grieving, that loves one another. You will see a family that is trying to move on."

The series, which makes its debut on Wednesday, sets the stage for a slew of November tributes to the troubled singer with the golden voice. Upcoming projects include an official glossy book of photos, a compilation album of Houston's biggest hits that features a new duet version of "I Look To You" with R. Kelly, and the Nov. 16 TV broadcast of a special Grammy tribute starring Jennifer Hudson, Usher and Celine Dion.

Few of the many public salutes to Houston since her February death have touched on her well-publicized addiction to drugs and her tumultuous personal life. Yet the TV series delves into some of family's thorniest issues.

Bobbi Kristina in spotlight
Using some of Houston's soaring ballads to set the tone, including her 2003 single "On My Own," the show opens with the family in their Atlanta, Georgia home days before the first Mother's Day without Whitney and their first visit to her grave.

Her daughter and only heir to the estate, Bobbi Kristina, 19, is finding solace in an alcoholic beverage, and the arms of Nick Gordon, 23, the teen Whitney Houston took into the family home when he was a troubled high school student.

VIDEO: Is Bobbi Kristina engaged to Nick Gordon?

"We were best friends a long time ago, and now I am in love with him," Bobbi Kristina explains on camera, before telling appalled family members at a dinner that she and Gordon are engaged, and that she is looking to launch a recording career of her own.

Pat Houston, who in the show's first episode is firmly against any engagement, declined to address the couple's current relationship status. "It's a journey. You've just got to watch the show," she told Reuters last week.

The notion of putting Bobbi Kristina in the spotlight so soon after her mother's death, and the singer's messy 2007 divorce from singer Bobby Brown, sparked public dismay when the reality show was announced in May.

Bobbi Kristina was hospitalized twice with anxiety in February 2012 after her mother Houston, 48, was found drowned in a Beverly Hills hotel from what officials later said was a combination of cocaine use and heart disease.

But Pat Houston said that reality shows were nothing new for the Houston clan. Whitney Houston's chaotic relationship with Bobby Brown was chronicled in the 2005 TV series "Being Bobby Brown" and Pat Houston's life as the singer's longtime manager was featured on the more recent show "Power BrokHers".

VIDEO: Bobby Brown 'felt disrespected' at Houston funeral

"We have always been involved in negotiations for a reality show even when Whitney was alive. So this is really no different. It's nothing new to the family," she said.

Houston said she hoped the new show would help Whitney's fans come to terms with her death, as much as it is helping the family.?

"It is almost giving them closure in seeing the types of people she had around her, and then hearing her music ... and (it is a chance) for them to remember the good instead of all the negativity that may have surrounded her life in the past decade," she said.?

As for the future, "There will be bumps and grinds as there always will be. But we know how to handle that and keep it moving because we love Whitney, and we love what she represents with her music and we hope her fans continue to do the same with her legacy," Houston said.?

DefaultI'm an iPhone user, convince me to get an Android
I'm an iPhone user and am seriously considering getting an Android for my next phone. I mean, I'm satisfied with the iPhone but want to consider all my options.

I don't ask much of my smartphone, what I look for more than anything is a fast web browser, which my iPhone was consistently good at. Besides that, I just want something reliable, with a fast UI. Again, my iPhone was great at that. But with my iPhone 4 getting up there in age, I'm starting to consider getting a new phone. Just wanted to consider Android and see what you all thought. Trying to think of reasons to switch to an Android...

I mean, maybe I'd be better off with the iPhone. Customization doesn't matter to me and I've been with Apple since the first iPhone, before it was really a big thing. Never really had a reason to change, but I am considering the Nexus 4.

Wow, never thought I'd ever hear someone on an Android forum say that. Thanks! I might do that.

That's far from true for all Android phones. Mine outpaces an iPhone 4s on browsing quite easily.

OP, what carrier are you on? The new Nexus isn't out yet, and no doubt it will be a beast, but models vary by carriers and we may be able to recommend other choices to look into as well.

If you don't demand much from your smartphone, why pay for the upgrade?

The reason I stick with android is how well it interacts with all the various google products I use. Syncing between chrome on my desktop, laptop, and phone is easy. I have all my documents anywhere I need them via google drive, I sync up all my appointments over all my devices via google calendar, and I have the full google maps experience.

Besides that, I was able to get what is arguably one of the best phones out for $350 contract free. Try that with an iPhone.

Three reasons to switch to Android:

1) Choice: there is only one iPhone model available to you. There are hundreds of Android models, and dozens of screen sizes to choose from.
2) Choice: with an iPhone you can choose between very expensive and ridiculously expensive. With Android you can choose to spend from 50 bucks to 500 bucks for a fully operational smartphone that does everything you want.
3) Choice: with an iPhone you are limited to what Apple allows you to do in their closed 'walled garden' as opposed to the completely open nature of the Android eco system.

But since you're happy with what your current iPhone does for you I would save myself a couple hundred bucks and stay with this 'old' iPhone for another year or so. Yes, Androids can do much more than what you want, but you don't want that. So why get one? Or even a new iPhone?
In your place I would keep my money in my pocket.

Pakistan-India jurists can end impasse: CJP

ISLAMABAD - The jurists being the most law-knowing and mature people and capable of moulding public opinion, can play a role in creating the environment for peaceful interaction between the two neighbours, but also ensuring that such interaction is translated into real trust and harmony between the two countries.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that while addressing the delegation of Indian lawyers, who visited the Supreme Court on Monday.
"I believe that the present visit and interaction between the jurists of India and Pakistan will go a long way in understanding each other better and help remove lingering sense of mistrust and apathy towards each other," he added. CJ said that lawyers are among the most active and knowledgeable segment of a society.
?They play a leading role in moulding the public opinion on important issues of public policy. Pakistan and India are among those two nations whose very existence was made possible primarily because of the visionary leadership of their founding fathers who were also distinguished jurists of their times,? he added. The institutions of judiciary both in Pakistan and India have a common cultural, social and legal background, he said.
"We draw inspiration from the same source of jurisprudence and follow the same pluralistic and all encompassing representative democracy based on the twin principles of rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution.?
"Given the peculiar evolution of democratic institutions and commonality in legal principle in our two countries, we can learn form each others' jurisprudence," he added. The Supreme Court of India has rendered benchmark judgments in the field of Public Interest litigation, he said.
Similarly, Supreme Court of Pakistan has also endeavoured to ensure implementation of fundamental rights to the citizens as enshrined in the Constitution by taking suo moto notices in wider public interest, CJ stated.
Even today, the role of lawyers and jurists cannot be under estimated in terms of providing a strong leadership in both the countries, he stressed.
CJ stated:it is a proven fact of history and considered opinion of historians and scholars of law and politics that only those societies thrive and prosper where the twin principles of "rule of law" and "supremacy of Constitution" are practiced.
The present Pakistan has successfully transitioned itself to rule of law based upon complete implementation of Constitutionalism in the country, he said.
?Our law-enforcement agencies are striving hard to check terrorism menace and the court system in the country including the Anti-Terrorism Courts are geared to handle these cases expeditiously and dispense justice in a forthright and transparent manner. Therefore, I do not see any reason why Pakistan should not regain its position as a civilised and progressive country, which is at peace with itself and with countries in the region and beyond, ? he added.
